The "Startup Factory Saxony" (SFS), a pioneering project within the Saxon innovation landscape, has made it to the national finalists of the "Startup Factories" lighthouse competition. This award was announced by Dr. Robert Habeck, Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, during the anniversary congress "25 years of successful EXIST programs" in Berlin on 6 June 2024. The joy and pride of being part of this pioneering initiative can also be felt in Mittweida, in the heart of Saxony.
Under the leadership of Dresden University of Technology, and with partners such as Chemnitz University of Technology, Leipzig University, Freiberg University of Mining and Technology, HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management, Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, SpinLab Accelerator GmbH, biosaxony Management GmbH and Teleskopeffekt GmbH, SFS aims to strengthen and further develop Saxony's start-up ecosystem in the long term. Through our participation in this consortium, we are reaffirming our commitment to enriching the Mittweida innovation ecosystem through international partnerships and the promotion of new ventures.
Dr. Benjamin Zeitler, Managing Director of Teleskopeffekt GmbH, emphasizes the importance of the joint efforts within Saxony: "Our focus in the project is on raising awareness for and attracting new companies as well as using international expertise, which we are gaining through partnerships with Estonia and Silicon Valley, among others. Together, we are creating a dynamic and future-oriented economic region that sets new standards both locally and globally."
Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Dulig, sees the selection of SFS for the final round of the competition as an "important and significant signal for the further development of Saxony's start-up ecosystem". This underlines the opportunity to further increase Saxony's attractiveness for startup founders and to sustainably promote startup activity in the state.
The SFS will not only support university spin-offs, but also attract international founders from outside the universities and network them with existing accelerators and industry partners. The aim is to promote the growth of young companies through this intensive support and the provision of necessary services and to establish Saxony as a beacon for start-ups in the deep tech sector both nationally and internationally.
