In our innovation center Workbench32 a good 50 interested parties were given an insight into the Blockchain Showcase Region Mittweida, and the topics of blockchain and crypto were explained in a simple and understandable way, or that cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, are well known but not the essence of blockchain. All age groups were represented among the participants and almost all of them were "blockchain newbies", who proved in the discussion at the end of the event that they had understood the topic very quickly and well.
Volksbank Mittweida's new blockchain-based offering for private customers was also presented. Thomas Otto, the blockchain expert at Volksbank Mittweida, says: "We want to familiarize our customers with blockchain applications. Our new investment opportunity is a token that is tailored to existing customers who have no previous blockchain experience and are looking for security. Our token offers a very easy way to get started, with no need for crypto custody or cryptocurrencies."
Incidentally, Volksbank Mittweida is one of the leading banking partners in the blockchain world. For example, they are the first bank in the German Blockchain Association and a founding member of INATBA Brussels, the interest group of the blockchain industry under the umbrella of the European Commission. At the same time, they are also a founding member of the Blockchain Competence Center Mittweida (BCCM) and co-initiator of the Blockchain showcase region Mittweida.
Since 2018, Volksbank Mittweida has already been supporting corporate customers with a blockchain background, which only a few banks in Germany offer due to the legal complexity.
For the first time, a blockchain-based investment is possible for existing customers. This is not about Bitcoin and the like, but about investing with the bank itself.
Preparations for this were carried out by the WE! Project "Service consortium for token issuance and securities on the blockchain" was created. Law firms Annerton and Taylor Wessing Germany as well as IT service provider Swarm Markets GmbH are supporting the project during implementation.
